Waimanalo Beach Photos

Waimanalo Beach Photos

Waimanalo Beach photos combine the best of two scenes in Oahu: The mountains and the beach. No need to choose!

The sand is soft for running, the crowds are thin compared to Honolulu, and there’s plenty of space to run and play!

What I look for in beach photo locations

As a mom, I want my kids to have the freedom to move and be themselves (read: loud)

  • Soft sand
  • Easy parking
  • Easy to get to
  • Room to run
  • Few crowds (so we don’t disturb at anyone)
  • Toilets and showers, if possible

As a photographer, I want easy accessibility, few crowds, soft sand to play in, and good light. Always good light!

  • Soft sand to play in
  • easy parking
  • Easy to get to
  • Room to run and play
  • Few crowds to get in our way
  • Great light – always.

So basically the same things!

Hi! I’m Alison, your chaos coordinator, toddler briber, and parent commiserator. Oh! And Oahu family photographer!

As the ringleader of my own 4-boy circus, I know how hard getting family photos can be.

I run my photo session like a party. I give you something TO DO so you don’t feel awkward wondering, “Where do I put my HANDS?!”

Dad is playing with the kids, everyone forgets what’s ACTUALLY happening, and you look amazing bc you’re actually enjoying yourself. #whoknewphotoscouldbefun

Fast. Fun. Done.

Basic geography of Oahu, Hawaii

Where is Waimanalo Beach?

Wiamanalo Beach is located on the Windward (east) side of Oahu. Its south of Kailua and north of the Ko’Olau Mountains that separate the Windward side from Honolulu and Waikiki.

Is Waimanalo Beach safe?

Like all beaches, you should check conditions before going. But generally Waimanalo Beach is safe with gentle currents year round. Always check conditions before you go.

Waimanalo does have lifeguards on duty during regular hours.

There is marine life. Baby Portuguese Man of War jellyfish can be frequent during the summer months. Keep vinegar on hand for stings.

Water quality can sometimes be an issue as up stream there is a waste water treatment facility that releases into canals and ultimately in to the ocean. Check for conditions regularly.

Parking at Waimanalo Beach Park

Parking at Waimanalo Beach is simple and plentiful. There are two lots – one at the main entrance and one near the campsites.

Bathrooms at Waimanalo Beach

There are two sets of bathrooms at Waimanalo Beach – one in each parking lot.

Waimanalo Bay vs. Waimanalo Beach Park

Waimanalo Bay is the body of water that Waimanalo Beach Park sits on. The bay runs from Bellows Air Force Base to Makapu’u Point. Waimanalo Beach Park is the recreational facility operated by the City and County of Honolulu.

Directions to Waimanalo Beach

There’s no direct route to Waimanalo Beach from Waikiki, but it is simple. Take the Pali Highway through the Ko’Olau Mountains and turn right on Kalania’iole Highway. The park will be on your left! Its about 40 minutes from Waikiki.

Oahu-family photograpeher alison Bell,

Have you thought about family photos while you’re in Hawai’i?

Its photo season year-round here in Hawaii and I want you to take advantage of it!

Take home the bright skies, warm air and blue water to relive it over and over because you’ll never experience this place with the kids these ages ever again.

This is your one shot. Take it!

As the ringleader of my own 4 boy circus, I know how hard getting family photos can be. I’m here to change that.

If I could dress your kids and literally hang your family photos on your walls, I would …but I can’t, so I do just about everything else in between. That’s why I take the time to hold your hand from start to finish.

Because what good are family photos if your kids never see them?

I only accept two families a week, so if you have dates, reach out to Alison Bell, Photographer now.
