What is the Disney Aulani Photopass and is it worth it?

Is it a photographer that does a family photo session on the property? (No)

How do you get an Aulani photographer to do a family photo session?

You’re certainly going to want photos of your vacation with YOU in them, not just behind the camera.

There are several ways to make it happen and the options can be very confusing questions if you haven’t been to Oahu or a Disney resort.

Let me explain.

Hi! I’m Alison, your chaos coordinator, toddler briber, and parent commiserator. Oh! And Oahu family photographer!

As the ringleader of my own 4-boy circus, I know how hard getting family photos can be.

I run my photo session like a party. I give you something TO DO so you don’t feel awkward wondering, “Where do I put my HANDS?!”

Dad is playing with the kids, everyone forgets what’s ACTUALLY happening, and you look amazing bc you’re actually enjoying yourself. #whoknewphotoscouldbefun

Fast. Fun. Done.

What is the Aulani Disney Photopass?

The Disney Aulani Photopass a collection of photos during your time at the Disney Aulani Resort. They may be candid, posed, etc but they span the duration of your stay and are only taken on the resort property. It is not a custom photo session.

The Disney Aulani Photopass options include prints and downloads ranging in price from $27 – $99.

The photopass excludes any photos taken with Character experiences or dining. There is a seperate photo package option for those.

How the Disney Aulani Photopass Works

You’ll need to set it up and receive a Disney Aulani Photopass card. All of your images will be linked to that card so you can see them online, at the kiosk or on your TV in your hotel room.

Photopass images are taken by Disney cast members at specific locations:

  • Disney Character Meet & Greets
  • On Ko Olina beach
  • Near the pools
  • Lazy River
  • Stitch Statue
  • Shake a Shaka Pool Party
  • Aunty’s Beach House (registered activities only, such as Aloha Fun, Surf’s Up, Stitch’s Space Goo, Fish Are Friends, Keiki Hula and Ohana Hula.)

Its important to remember that this are posed, ‘look at me’ photos that can be taken throughout the day. You can dress up for them, but its not the same having candid vacation photos or photographer.

Hiring a Disney Aulani Photographer

A second option through Disney Aulani is to schedule a Private Portrait Session. These are more custom photo sessions on the hotel property, typically done at sunset.

Sessions are 20 minutes long and start at $275.

Research photos other families have received with this experience and make sure they style is to your liking. Usually a flash is used and can create some shiny faces!

These private sessions tend to book up quickly.

Hiring a Private Disney Aulani Photographer

A third option is to skip the Aulani Photopass and hire a photographer to come to you at the Disney Aulani Resort, but not through the resort itself. There are some pros and cons:

Disney Photopass

  • Work directly with Aulani
  • Stay on property
  • Limited choices
  • Posed photos
  • Books quickly

Private Photographer

  • Sort through hundreds of photographers
  • Not on Aulani property, but nearby
  • Get exactly what you want
  • Variety of photos
  • Choice of time/place

A private photographer will not be permitted to do photos anywhere on Diseny or Ko Olina property, but a nearby public beach is all you need! Its walkable from the Disney Aulani Resort

You’ll get a more flexible schedule with a private photographer, and your choice of options for prints or downloads. The pricepoint can vary widely. But you’ll get exactly what you want!

Is the Disney Aulani Photopass worth it?

It depends on what you want. If you’re happy with the limitations of the Photopass, its the best pricepoint you’ll get on Oahu for photos.

If its NOT what you want, your phone will take just a good photos and hire a private photographer.

Can’t decide? Do both!
