Hi, I’m Alison, your chaos coordinator.

As the ringleader of my own 4 boy circus, I know how hard getting family photos can be.

If I could dress your kids and literally hang your family photos on your walls, I would.

…but I can’t, so I do just about everything else in between.

That’s why I take the time to hold your hand from start to finish.

Because what good are family photos if your kids never see them?

Our active duty USMC family is currently stationed in Virginia Beach near Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Hampton in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. I call Charleston SC home and go back as often as I can! I shoot families and weddings as travel permits. Check out more of my work in Charleston here.

5 Reasons to choose in home newborn photoshoot over studio photography

If you’re looking to commemorate your newest addition to the family, there are few experiences more rewarding than an in-home session. The comfort of home can provide a uniquely fun and memorable experience that no studio setting ever could.

In home newborn photography sessions are easy. REALLY. If the idea of a photographer coming into your house sounds daunting or overwhelming… hear me out.

1. You don’t have to leave your house for in home newborn photography

An in-home newborn photography session offers a level of convenience that you won’t find at any other studio or location. You don’t have to worry about packing up all your baby’s belongings and getting everyone dressed and out the door.

Plus, there’s no need to stress if your baby needs extra attention during the shoot – with an in home shoot, you can take as many breaks as needed!

Don’t pack the bag, don’t plan a backup outfit, and don’t worry about a sitter, traffic, drive time, or anything else that comes with taking a new baby out. Just forget about it.

I come to YOU. I bring what I need with me, and I do the work.

Older siblings are in their own space.

We can turn the TV on for them, get them their snacks, OR put them down for their morning nap. Sometimes if grandparents are in town, they can take over too.

2. You’ll Be More Comfortable In your own home

Not only does booking an in home newborn photography session provide convenience for you and your family, it also ensures that your little one is comfortable throughout the entire process. Newborns are often easily overstimulated so being able to capture all those tiny details in the comfort of their own environment can make a huge difference when it comes to getting those perfect shots!

And because you don’t have to worry about leaving the house, you’ll naturally feel more comfortable for your photo session.

  • You’ll be more relaxed, and not anxious.
  • You’ll have a bit more patience for a silly toddler.
  • You won’t feel stiff in a new space.
  • You won’t be concerned about what the kids are touching, if the snacks are spilled, or where you’ll feed the baby.

And all of that will come through more beautifully in your photos. I promise

When you’re worked up, anxious or concerned, your facial muscles tell it all. If you or your spouse is preoccupied with anything, you won’t be connecting and enjoying the people in your photos.

3. Photograph the whole family

Most studio newborn photography focuses solely on baby with poses, styled wraps, and finger details. inside your in home newborn photography sessions, we’ll still get those baby details like fingers and noses, we’ll also get the whole family too:

We’ll also get the candids :

  • Rocking baby in the nursery
  • Big brother counting toes
  • Giving kisses
  • Changing diapers
  • Jumping on the bed

I also love documenting baby’s first house. Maybe its because we move so much as a military family, but I love photographing:

  • Nursery details
  • Wide shots in the living room or master
  • The whole family at the front door, of the whole house!

4. Relive moments and come back to them over and over

An in-home newborn photography session offers a unique perspective that traditional studio settings cannot provide—the same perspective that parents see every day when they look at their baby sleeping peacefully or playing happily, unaware of what’s happening around them!

This type of photography allows parents to appreciate the beauty of everyday moments with their little one in ways they wouldn’t otherwise be able to do so!

These moments include tickling, diaper changing, feeding, laughing, and interaction between baby and siblings.

Photographing these “in-between” moments freezes them forever, so you can return to these fleeting moments for decades to come.

5. Add your dog!

We can even include your pup in your family photos! Let your pup have the photoshoot they deserve; show off that undeniable bond between you and your dog!

Don’t sweat it if things don’t go as planned — because we all know how quickly those furry friends can take center stage in any picture-perfect moment.

Whether it’s dog and baby, dog and whole family, or dog and kids – he’s there!

Get ready for some truly unforgettable moments with pictures that show off all the love and laughter you share – canine included! And since everyone’s home right now, it’ll be easy peasy just to let him out whenever he needs a break.
