Last Friday night I was invited to cover a father-daughter dance called the White Rose Ball. It was so fun! I had never been to a dance like this, and it was so well executed.  It was elegant, pretty, and big! We were expecting half of the people we had. Needless to say, we got slammed in the beginning doing formal photos!

It was so awesome to see dads having fun with their daughters. Especially when we did the photobooth. They dressed up with boas, lips, the works. Oh, and let’s not forget the dresses! Such gorgeous dresses. I was taking notes for the Marine Corps Birthday Ball.

And to think this was only the third year in existence (here in Birmingham anyway). The committee did an awesome job as you can see:

A couple weeks ago I got to branch out into something new – product photography.  I shot jewelry for my friend’s line – Adornments By Tammy.  Logic would say that working with inanimate objects is less tiring than small children and babies.  But that is not so. They are different, but equal!

During my undergraduate internship with commercial photographer, Matthew Scott in Charleston, SC, I got to experience a lot of this type of photography.  It takes so much patience, cleanliness, meticulousness, and GEAR. Thousands of dollars in GEAR! Oh the lighting set ups were labor intensive.  I knew during that internship that I love learning so much about lighting (that no photog class ever mentioned), but it would not be my career path because 1. it has major start up costs and 2. I didn’t want to haul that gear around. Literally it was a jeep full of stands, bulbs, and extraneous things. And we used it all. The longest day on the job was shooting a new line of Le Cruset Pots, lids, and knobs – less than 15-20 items total.  One stationary set up, more lights rigged up than you would guess, and all the polishing and white gloves you could handle. It took all day.

Sounds like I hated, but I didn’t! I just knew it wasn’t my field.  I do however like shooting small products, and change is always good. Its a challenge.

If you’re in the Helena/Pelham/Alabaster Area April 13, check out our booth at the Helena Cumberland Presbyterian Spring Bazaar! Or even sooner, there will be an open house drop in for Tammy’s line next Tuesday, April 2!

Here’s a peek at what she has to offer:
