Wingate Place Wedding on Johns Island, SC
I was floored when Nika asked me to shoot her wedding. Not surprised though because she’s always had a knack for pulling people together and supporting her tribe. Even when this tribe member as been moving around the world the last 12 years!
I gave her every reason to pick someone else! I didn’t want her to feel constrained just because we were old friends. Wedding photos are the only thing that will last from this day and it was way too important to be bogged down in niceties!
It’s been at least 5 years since I’ve photographed a wedding. It’s not new, but I was rusty. Rusty enough to be super nervous the entire month of May!
I am SO glad I grateful for another go at it! One, it’s an honor to be part of such a big day, made more so being a long time childhood friend. Professionally, it was SUCH A DELIGHT! It wasn’t nearly as hard, long, difficult, stressful or any other negative feeling I’d attached to it!
Lesson: DO IT SCARED. Y’all I was scared. I hired a second, had two cameras, all the batteries, all the backups. I was still anxious as all get out. But I’d never known how much fun it could be had if I ran away from it!
Nika & Ben, Thank you! Bless you for your perseverance in waiting a full year after shut down. Bless you for your thoughtfulness, spirit, and joy you put into every detail.
