Change of Command Ceremony Naval Air Station Oceana

In a last minute change, the Navy photographer was reassigned to a major aircraft carrier homecoming just 6 days before the Change of Command ceremony. I was impressed they had such lead time! Of course it was a last minute hustle to secure a private photographer, but I’m so glad they did!

This ceremony took place outside in the bright sun on the edge of a hangar. The flight line was filled with folks prepping for the Oceana Airshow just yards away. We were even serenaded by Zac brown band while someone was testing the speakers – quite comical!

Like most changes of command, there was a walk on of the official party, parading of colors, guest speaker, comments from the outbound commander, presenting his award and comments from the inbound commander.

At the end of every military ceremony I like to make sure we get photos with everyone, not just family. It’s a lot like a wedding and the service member is the bride!

At the end of a career, all that will be left are the photos and uniforms. I pray you have photos! If not for yourself, for your kids.
